Insect Cuisine
Edible Insects for Humanity
Here in the depths of the forest... The little insects are having some kind of secret meeting.
Everyone! It looks like everyone is here, so let's start the meeting.
Today's agenda is that humans have finally started eating insects.
We locusts are boiled into rice in Japan, fried and eaten as chaplinens in Mexico, and fried to a crisp in Thailand with our hands and feet ripped off and chewed. But isn’t it true that only humans from certain countries eat us?
Mr. Chairman!
Objection! Chairman! In China, Thailand, and Southeast Asia, cicadas are considered food.
"Fried cicada pupae" is a dish where cicada larvae are fried until crispy and served as a snack with wine.
Humans capture cicadas like us who have stayed underground for many years, and then peel off the skin when they finally climb up to the surface. Not only us adults, but also children have become sacrifices. This is absolutely unacceptable! What we need is not human rights, but the rights of cicadas!
Although we stink elephants are a bit scary, during festivals in some areas of Mexico, humans actually eat us like this! Sometimes it's eaten raw, sometimes it's mixed into salsa or other dishes. I heard that the unique taste of our stink bugs is quite precious in the eyes of humans!
Even though we tarantulas are highly venomous, humans still eat us in places like Asia, South America, and Australia. They say my plump abdomen tastes like crab and devour me! Humans are truly terrifying creatures!
Even our fly larvae are being targeted by humans. They say we're full of nutrients and that we might even replace beef and pork in the future, according to some university in Australia. Seriously, those humans are terrifying.
